Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Mapping polygons , part of Maya 8 Essential Training.
- [Instructor] Up until this point, we've been dealing…mostly with NURBS-based surfaces,…and remember that NURBS-based surfaces…are made out of patches, out of four-sided curved patches.…Now, when we deal with polygonal surfaces,…they don't have to be made out of patches.…And so, texturing those, and applying textures…to those types of surfaces is a little bit different…than NURB surfaces.…Let me show you some of the tools we have…for texturing polygonal surfaces.…Well, first thing we need is a polygonal surface,…so let's go over to the polygons tab,…and let's create a polygonal cylinder.…
In fact, I'm going to make this a little bit more complex.…So I'm going to over to my inputs, polyCylinder,…Subdivisions Height, and I'm going to bring that up…to about four.…I'm going to shade this so you can see what's going on here.…And then, I'm going to go into Faces,…and I'm going to do a couple of extrudes.…Now, this is something that you really can't do…in a NURBS-based surface.…You really can't extrude things…because everything's made out of these four-sided patches.…
