Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Extracting NURBS curves from surfaces, part of Maya 2015 Essential Training.
…There are many times when you'll want to connect multiple surfaces together.…And probably one of the easiest ways to do this is to…extract curves from the surface and…use those curves to create additional surfaces.…So, here is a simple example.…I have two cylinders, and let's say I wanted to connect those two together.…Well, if I wanted to, I could just bring…them together and then just select them and do…Edit NURBS > Attach Surfaces, and that will create…a third surface that is connected to the two.…But let's say I don't want that third surface.…I'm going to go ahead and undo this here.…Let's say I want something that's a little bit more interactive.…Well, we can use curves on surface to create that.…So, I'm going to go into my first cylinder here and…I'm going to right-click on this, and let's go back into Isoparm.…And what I'm going to do, is I'm going to slide an isoparm so I get the very…end, the one that's facing the other cylinder,…and you can see how that highlights in yellow.…And then I'm going to go into Edit Curves > Duplicate Surface Curves.…
