Join Aaron F. Ross for an in-depth discussion in this video Controlling object display with drawing overrides, part of Maya: Workflow Tips.
…Setting the wire frame color is easy through the menus.…However, there is no guarantee that another…user will see the same color, because they…might have chosen some other color in…the color settings window under user defined colors.…If you want to make sure that a wire frame is precisely…a certain color across any computers, then you'll want to use drawing overrides.…I'll go ahead and select this polyhedral solid…object and go to the attribute editor, Ctrl+A, and…in its transform note, I can open up display.…
Scroll down, and inside display you will see drawing overrides.…And here we can enable over-writes.…We do things like, make a display of the template or a reference.…We could make a display only as a bounding box.…But what we really…want to do is change its wire frame color here.…If this slider is all the way over to the left then we will get the default color.…Which is whatever happened to be set in the menus.…But I can also move this slider to…choose some other index color, maybe a bright orange.…
And if I deselect the object now you can see it's been made bright orange.…
