Join Adam Crespi for an in-depth discussion in this video Casting light from exterior fixtures, part of Maya: Rendering Exteriors.
…Night shots are different from day shots, in…that there's not as much ambient light around.…Light sources are still just as bright but overall, the scene is darker.…I'm going to take out some daylight here, or rather take out…the daylight system, and light this scene up for a night shot.…What I'll start off with, is to delete the…daylight and then get some lights in from my fixtures.…I'll go into the Render Settings and, in here,…under Indirect Lighting, I'll delete the physical sun and sky.…Now, on the camera, I still want my photographic exposure, so…I'm going to leave that alone, but I've lost the environment shader.…
So if I render right now, it'll be very dark.…And now, I'm going to get some light on the light fixtures.…I'll turn of my res gate, go back to…the channel box, and hide everything but those light fixtures.…I'll choose Window and Outliner and under Display, Show Objects and uncheck Lights.…I've also deleted those two point lights, so really I have no light in the scene.…I'll scroll down, and pick my can lights.…
