Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Applying multiple materials to polygonal objects, part of Maya 2015 Essential Training.
…Texturing a polygonal object gives you a little…bit more freedom than texturing a nurbs object.…In a polygonal object, you can actually texture on a face by face basis.…So, you could either apply faces, or texture map, on a per polygon basis.…So, let's take a look at this.…So, I have this character here, and if I…want, I can create materials for an entire object.…So, let's say I select his chest, and I can apply say a blend material to…him, and if we go over to this, we can change it to whatever color we want.…
So, let's say we wanted to give him.…A nice body color here, maybe yellowish or something like that.…And we can certainly play with the materials…that we have and create whatever we want.…Now, if I want we can certainly name that material, say let's call it body.…And we can apply that same material to other objects,…and this is stuff that we've all done before, so…if I select my shoulders for example, and right click,…you'll see that I have body as an existing material.…And I can apply it.…Now, we have other objects that may require, multiple materials.…
