Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Animating objects using Set Key, part of Maya 2015 Essential Training.
…Animation in Maya is driven by what are called keys or…keyframes, and we can set those using a number of different methods.…So let's go ahead and animate this little flying saucer.…Now, I've actually added one additional thing to this…flying saucer and that's this NURBS circle that surrounds it.…Now when I grab that, you'll notice that the name of this is called saucer main.…And this is basically what is called a rig or a handle for your object.…Now typically people do this to make objects easier to access.…
So if we look at this in the Outliner, you'll see that I have this…NURB circle here and that's the parent to all the other parts in the spaceship.…So all we have to do is animate this and the rest of the spaceship follows.…So let's go ahead and animate that.…So I'm going to select that curve and move the whole…flying saucer back just a little bit and let's set a key.…We can do that in the Animation menu by going Animate > Set Key.…Now the hot key for this is the letter…S, and that's a pretty important hot key to remember.…
