Join David Mattingly for an in-depth discussion in this video Adding special effect glows, part of Digital Matte Painting 5: Camera Projection in Maya.
…Let's add the flames we rendered out in the…last lesson at the base of the lava waterfall.…This plane with the smoke on it is close to where we want the…flames to go, so duplicate it, move the copy forward, and assign a new material.…Let's call this one Flames.…Just remember this one's a texture not a projection,…and go ahead and load in the flame sequence.…The car needs to be moved up so you can…see the flames, and we still need to add the incandescence.…The plane needs to be moved forward, and position the flames…so that they just sort of peak up out of the lava.…
Once that's positioned let's duplicate it and move it back by the lava waterfall.…And let's rotate it around 180 degrees so we're…seeing the reverse of that front set of flames.…We still want to offset the timing on the flames, so let's add a new material.…Go through the process of getting a second copy of the flames loaded in.…Then check Use Image Sequence, and let's offset this by 50 frames.…Add the incandescants.…I'd like to add one more set of the flames right at the top of the lava waterfall.…
