- [Host] Mathematica is a powerful analytical environment. Part of it's power is that it has a huge number of built in expressions and functions that you can use to evaluate your data. In this movie I will describe some of the most frequently used expressions and also show you how to use them inside of the program. To start I'll just give you a quick overview of some of the functions that I'll demonstrate a little bit later once I get into a Mathematica Notebook. I have found that the most useful built in functions for me includes Sqrt, which finds the square root of a value put in. Next is IntegerPart which returns the integer component of a real number, for example, 37.5 would be 37. Ceiling rounds the number up regardless of the decimal component of the number. For example, if you had the number 24.1, normally Mathematica would round that number down to 24, however what Ceiling does is round a number up to the next integer if there is any decimal component other than zero.
