- Welcome to Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS. Now before we get started, there's a few things that you should know. First off, this is a plugin for SOLIDWORKS. So I'm expecting that you have some basic knowledge of SOLIDWORKS itself. How to move around, how to rotate models, how to add in parts, and things of that nature. Now, I'm going to be covering some of those things in the course, so you don't have to be a master of SOLIDWORKS, but you should have some basic fundamental knowledge of how the software works. Secondly, we are going to be using Mastercam. Now Mastercam is a CAM software for manufacturing, so for running a CNC machine. Now if I teach you how to program a CNC machine, and you have no understanding of actually what machining is, that is a problem. So before you take this course, and before you learn how to program a CNC machine, you need to know a little bit about actual manufacturing. How do you drill a hole, how do you machine something, how do you run an end mill, how do you set up a tool. Those are all fundamental things that you should know prior to getting into this field. Now, an instructor I had a long time ago used to tell me you need to have the smell and taste of removing metal in you. So, if you're not that person, you're probably in the wrong place for this course, but if you are, get ready 'cause we're going to learn some SOLIDWORKS tools, and we're going to learn a whole bunch of Mastercam tools that are going to really propel you to really get and set up these machines and program them effectively.
