- I needed to book a flight for a business trip, so I checked a bunch of websites and compared prices. When I finished, I went back to the site with the best price. But the price had gone up. What's the deal? Well, there's an upside and downside to websites tracking your actions. They track you to find out what you're interested in and then use that information, sometimes for incentives like discounts and sometimes to increase prices. Price increases are one of the downsides to tracking. Because you searched on a particular flight but didn't book, you showed your interest. The next time you go back you'll probably get a higher price because they know you want that flight. Unfortunately, your options are limited. You either buy the first time you see the price you want, or you use a different computer in a different location on a different network and book from there. You may get your lower price.
