Why mental toughness?

- Mental toughness. It's a phrase that for me conjures up the famous actor, bodybuilder, man mountain that is Arnold Schwarzenegger. But actually, the phrase was first coined in the 1980s by performance psychologists working with elite athletes, trying to find that extra edge to self-manage, to self-lead, to problem-solve. The resilience and self-belief that allowed them not to rely on their coach to find the solutions they needed for high performance. I'm Richard Gerver, and I've spent over a decade working with elite athletes and coaches, and in high performance businesses, helping them to develop techniques for mental toughness. And on this course, I want to work with you as aspiring leaders, as experience leaders. Those of you that want to develop from being managers to leaders, to spending your time focusing on empowering your teams to solve problems for themselves. We're going to explore the techniques around resilience, around self-belief, around self-confidence and self-leadership that will allow you to spend less time managing and more time leading.
