Who is your target market?
- Your consumers are complex. Take me for example. I'm a marketer, a coffee enthusiast, a cyclist, a pilot, a dad, an educator, and so on. And all of these characteristics work together to define my identity, and they dictate how I behave and respond to marketing. This means, to be powerful at marketing, you have to be able to answer the question, "Who is your target market?" You can't sell to everyone, and you can't sell to broad groups either. Put 100 dads in a room together, and while we might have a few things in common, it's safe to assume we'd all have wildly different opinions and interests. With marketing, you must hae a nuanced approach so you can fully align your efforts and resources. Let's say that right now I'm in the market for a new bicycle, and there's a lot of bicycles for sale. But my primary motivation is to haul my young kids around.
