- We talk about funnels all the time in marketing. Purchase funnels, sales funnels, inbound funnels. Call it what you want, but they're all ultimately describing the same concept. A funnel is really just a way to represent a customer's journey as they move toward the purchase of your product or service. At the top or the widest point of the funnel is where a buyer starts their journey. And the bottom, the narrowest part, is where they complete it. Our goal as marketers is to funnel prospects into buyers, moving them from the top to the bottom of the funnel. As a buyer makes their way through the funnel, we describe each fundamental stage of their journey as awareness, interest, desire, action, and advocacy. As they pass through each stage, they'll interact with different messaging and experiences, all uniquely different touchpoints that you must control.
