Understand schema and why you need it
- [Instructor] Back in the early days of the internet search engines had to do a lot of work to understand exactly what they were looking at. Everything was text and search results were very basic as a result. eventually search engine operators realized that we needed a better way to handle this instead of just cataloging the information indexes they needed to describe the information they had as well. That way, if someone was looking for the address of a restaurant, the population of a country, or the name of that movie where the day keeps repeating their search engine could return an accurate result. The schema.org initiative was launched in 2011 by Bing, Google, Yahoo and Yandex to create and support a common set of markup to turn text into what's called structured data.
