- As PR professionals our ethics and values are all around, helping journalists and companies to share accurate, objective, credible stories. In other words, real news. It used to be easy to spot real news but now we have fake news. Fake news is propaganda. By definition, fake news is deliberate disinformation. Some call it a hoax or a conspiracy theory, spread through your media channels including social media. What happened to media? Social media and the rise of different voices and platforms like Twitter, Facebook and other networks became mainstream news. What you see in your social media news feeds are more of an echo chamber than a balanced perspective. You don't always know if it's a credible source or if it's fake news. Real news is objective and free of hyperbole and opinion. Let's start with fake news. You have to identify fake news and refrain from sharing it with your network.
