- Can you remember a time when you were excited to give an idea and were shut down? I remember it as a child, it happened all the time. I bet it happened to you too. But have you ever been shut down in the workplace? When it comes to conflict, I always say, you can't fix the problem with the same mindset that created it. That's why it's important to value different perspectives when trying to resolve a conflict. Here are some tips for how to create safety around brainstorming and contributing new ideas. First, set some ground rules for how to brainstorm a solution. Things like all ideas are acceptable. Let's not interrupt each other when we're giving ideas. Next, use encouraging statements for thinking and contributing ideas. Things like that's great, let's keep it coming, or let's see how we can look at it from another angle.
