- As situations unfold, the need to communicate is immediate. Your audience will want information likely before you've even had a chance to think about what to say. Now, I'm not going to discuss how to manage crisis communication. I simply want to give you a place to start. As you find yourself in the middle of a crisis, you have three immediate steps to make. First, acknowledge your need to make a statement. Don't rush into your messaging. You can simply post an update saying you're aware of the events that are unfolding and you are preparing information that will be available at a later time. And you should pick a concrete time if you can. It's better to underpromise and overdeliver. So give yourself adequate time. And if you recognize that you haven't made a statement, own it. Admit that you have been slow to communicate, but are now committed to providing timely information. Next, identify the common questions…
