- [Peter] Hello, and welcome to Link Building in Depth. I'm Peter Kent, and I'm going to help you understand the importance of links for search engine optimization. I'm often asked, "How many links do I need "to rank my site number one in the search results?" My answer is, generally, whatever it takes. In some cases, it may take a huge number of links to get the job done. In others, ranking a site can be quite easy. So I'll begin by explaining why links are so important, the different ways they benefit your website.

In some ways, linking is the hardest part of SEO. With on-page issues, like page optimization and site structure, you have total control. It's your site after all. But with linking, it's different.
