- Let me ask you a question. How do you feel when someone calls you a name? Now, how do you feel when you do the name-calling? You probably don't even notice it. Name-calling isn't always obvious. In fact, it can be very subtle, but still hurtful and hugely detrimental to actually resolving conflict. Name-calling can actually derail the process of conflict resolution. It can make people feel small and make them think that they're not valued. So, here are five subtle name-calling words and phrases I want you to avoid. "That's silly or stupid." No one wants to feel like they're silly or that their ideas aren't smart. "You're working too slow."
