- Mind mapping is a common way to think in a non-linear format. This approach creates visual connections between ideas, sparking new associations. Individual mind maps can be used to solve complex problems or simple ones, and they're fast to execute. And team mind maps work just the same way, yet, they're also incredibly fast to execute. For this, you simply need a place to write, either a flip chart or a whiteboard. There's even online mind mapping tools that you can research to help facilitate the process. But I'm a big fan of keeping it analog when it comes to brainstorming. The computer can introduce distractions and may hamper the creative process. So you'll start by drawing a circle in the middle of a sheet of paper, and write a description of the problem inside the circle.
