- I was recently at a comedy show where astrophysicist Ruth Agnes was giving a lecture about astrophysicism? Atrophysic, astro, space stuff. And in her lecture, she related her research to sci-fi movies. Or, more accurately, she ruined sci-fi movies. For example, she talked about Star Wars, saying there are no explosions in space because there is no oxygen, you can't see lasers and The Force isn't real. Whoa. The Force isn't real? That's taking it too far, space lady. There's no amount of science that will stop me from pretending The Force is real every time I go through an automatic door. While she and I disagree on The Force, Ruth did a great job at making complex material more accessible by connecting it to something the audience knew and enjoyed. To improve understanding of your material, reference funny through association. An association is simply connecting two ideas together in a unique way. This…
