As a marketing professor, industry consultant, author, and speaker, I've studied marketplace trends for over 40 years. But we've never witnessed the kind of disruptions that are brewing today. One disruption I'm watching carefully is that traditional large scale market segmentation strategies no longer work so well in an environment where each of us is literally a market of one. Marketers need to move away from trying to paint their customers with broad brush strokes. And toward a more nuanced detailed style that captures the identity changes they experience literally almost everyday. I call these customers the new chameleons.
