- Ever since social media became popular, people have been proclaiming the death of email. Take a look at this 2004 post from PC Magazine that opens up this very topic for discussion. But stop and think for a minute. Think about which of your social networks you've checked today. Now, think about how many times you've checked your email today. There's your answer for if email is dead or not. Check out some of these stats in this Huffington Post article from 2014. According to McKinsey, email conversion rates are 40 times those of Facebook and Twitter.
It also shows 58% of adults check email first thing in the morning, and then go on to check their phone upwards to 150 times a day. Inbox overload is something we all deal with in our own ways, but email is an important part of our world, and there is no truth to it going away anytime soon. Even as new communication tools go mainstream, email is here to stay. Because of that, you need to make sure that email marketing is a core part of your content marketing efforts, because as long as someone has opted in to receive your emails, you can market to them whenever, and how often you desire.
