Connecting to a Windows file share
- In this section, I'd like to demonstrate how to connect to a Windows share from a Macintosh client. Off the Go menu, I'll select the bottom option, Connect to Server. It asks me which server I would like to connect to. I'll need the prefacet with the acronym SMB because I'll be connecting to an SMB share. Then colon, slash, slash, and the IP address or the name of the machine I'd like to connect to. My Windows server is 192.168.1.120. Then I'll press the button marked Connect. I'm given the option to connect as either a guest or a registered user. I am a registered user. I'll put in my name and password. I'm asking which of the shares I'd like to look at. The one I'm interested in is Windows Share. I'll select that and press Okay. It may take a second or two, but eventually, the share should open and show you all of the files in there.
