Notifications are messages that can be displayed by the applications on your computer when there is some important information you need to be aware of. See how to control which applications are allowed to show notifications. Also, learn how to work with the Notification Center, which is where you can view a list of recent notifications that have not yet been cleared.
- [Instructor] Some applications need to display alerts,…like incoming messages or calendar reminders.…Those alerts are managed by the Notification Center.…So, here I am, minding my own business,…working at my computer when this happens.…This is a notification for a calendar appointment.…Or I might see something like this,…a notification telling me I've received a new email message.…Or I might see this. (ding)…A notification for a new message in the messages app.…So these are all notifications.…
And it's interesting to see that…some applications behave differently.…For example, some applications will alert you…of new information even if the application is not running,…and some will not.…Mail for example will only show a notification…if the application is running, but it's minimized…or some other application is active.…Right now, the messages app is not running at all.…We do not see the black dot under the icon…on the dot.…But, if I receive a new message. (ding)…I see a notification for it.…
Also, notice how some of my notifications fade away…
