This video introduces Time Machine, which is a utility that does automatic backups and keeps your backup updated over time. It's also the easiest way to restore files that you've lost. With Time Machine, you can restore all of your data in one move, or you can restore individual files that you've accidentally deleted. In this video, learn how to set up a Time Machine backup and see how to restore lost files.
- [Instructor] The easiest way to backup files…on your Mac is by using a tool that comes…with Mac OS called Time Machine.…It's easy to get it setup and it's easy…to restore files that you've lost.…The catch is that you need to dedicate…an external hard drive to this backup,…so I have a new, empty hard drive that…I've not connected to this computer yet.…I'll start by connecting this drive…to the computer and see what happens.…If you see this message pop up when you connect…your drive and you do want to use this drive…to store your backup, just click…this 'Use as Backup Disk' button,…but for now I don't want to do that.…
For now I'm just going to hit 'Don't Use'…because I also want to see what it looks like…if you connect a drive and that question…does not automatically pop up.…If that does not pop up, don't worry.…You can get this setup in System Preferences.…So, I'll go to System Preferences…and there's a category here for Time Machine,…and from here I can click on this button to select…the drive that I want to use for my backup.…
