- [Narrator] We talked a lot about storage…and file systems and core storage in particular…in the IT admin guide to El Capitan.…In this iteration of our IT admin guide,…I wanted to discuss the things here…in Disk Utility that have actually changed.…And the biggest thing is that we now have the ability…to perform a RAID against storage…that's attached to the system.…It's the software RAID.…RAID was missing from Disk Utility in the previous…version of the operating system.…It is now back, and we have a RAID Assistant…down here for the creation of a RAID.…
And the RAIDs that we have available are…what we've had available in much prior…versions of Mac OS going back ages.…We have our RAID zero, our RAID one, and our JBOD,…and they are explained here, but basically,…striped is for speed, but you risk your data…because if any disk in the set fails, you lose your data.…Mirrored gives you a fault tolerance,…so, if one of the drives in the RAID,…in the mirrored RAID set goes bad,…the data is still there.…You can remove the bad drive, put in a new good drive,…
