Creating an OS install device
- [Instructor] You may have noticed how long it takes for the macOS installer to download. When Apple releases a new OS, you will certainly benefit from having a caching server infrastructure on your network. But one way you can minimize the impact on your time personally as an administrator is to carry an external disk around with you that is both bootable and can run the entire install without having to download the operating system again. In fact, it can be helpful to carry a different fast USB flash drive for each of the major operating system releases you support in your environment. To do this with macOS 10.15 Catalina, follow along and we'll create one together. I've downloaded the Install macOS Catalina application which contains the necessary files for this operation but I quit the installer when it automatically launched and kept it in my Applications folder.
