- So important is the tree, that even breaking the tree down into components, it's still packed with symbolism. Some of this is such a part of everyday visual vernacular that we forget, it's really the tree from which the analogy is derived. I have an enormous majestic oak in my front yard that is probably the better part of 100 years old. When you're really focused on how magnificent these trees are, the expression "from small acorns grow mighty oaks" really sinks in. There are plenty of designers that are more than familiar with the expression, considering the number of times the small acorn tends to pop up in identity work. Always an identifier of strength through steady growth, you will see this used often to represent foundations or learning institutions, and occasionally telling the story of a financial entity that professes the same analogy as it relates to the savings of funds over the years.
