Making forced random connections

- If you're asked to design a logo for a frame shop some images will probably come to mind. That's the low hanging fruit and it's a good idea to just flush those images out. Sometimes they work. Usually it's not enough. In Sherry's case, what came to her mind were the initials "NF" out of which she made her monogram. Initials are easy to do, which is why we see them so often. Everybody has them, the alphabet is familiar, but for this project we want to look at a way to get beyond those first ideas. We'll work a process called Forced Random Connections. They way you do it is to pair two of the terms you just developed, then try to design a logo from the combination. Any words, just throw darts. You're going to get results from mild to wild. For example, N + Wood grain. The idea here is that the angled stroke of the N gets filled with wood grain from a frame, like a sash across a pageant dress. It's almost a literal way to connect framing to Sherry's monogram. NF Initials + a Wall…
