- I'm attracted to this final example because of the conundrum it presents. With the popularity of hand-built pipe, there are designers drawing entire documents with every letter meticulously imitating the appearance of a specific font. I could imagine that being very tedious, especially knowing that the better you were at it, the less likely anyone would notice. We invented print. We invented fonts that imitate our print. We imitate the print from the font that imitates our print. And finally, in this Sportiqe logo, we find the surrounding type set in a font that is a hand-drawn version of the original font that was imitating our print! What really matters here is not the paradox, what matters is as designers we have again discovered a way to capture the attention of the consumer that is beguiled by the subtle charm of a hand-crafted identity, all the while, tweaking our non-conformist nose at conformist fonts.
