Flames: A mix of old and new
It's important to remember just how symbols come about and the role that you and I play when we translate those same elements into a logo. Symbols come about as a way to simplify and graphically communicate a concept or a thing. A picture of a heart may symbolize love, it's not love but for purpose of communication it is love. When we interpret the heart in our own way, we've just made a symbol of a symbol of love. We've altered it so that it carries additional meaning. Maybe we've added a flame to the heart so that we are combining metaphors, now we have a burning heart that combines flames, symbolic of eternity or passion, with a heart that represents love, eternal love. There are not symbols for everything out there. Sometimes, you and I are called upon to help visually determine how best to convey an idea that is new.
