Art and type: Married together in a single logo

- There's something beautifully succint to gathering all of the elements of handmade aesthetics into one place and combining them together. We start with a shape that isn't perfect, of course. Then fill it with a background that has a few flaws of its own. Maybe a wash or some weathering. Lastly, load it with type. Scratch that. Load it with some whimsically crafted hand-hewn words. I look at these and feel good. These are the signs at the rally that I'm going to read. Reese, whoever he, she, it is has my attention. The Ben Faulkner Band, love your music! Have I heard it? No. Does it really matter? Great little mark. How about we get a bit more inventive, and instead of using simple shapes, we lay in a few significant icons that really do mean something? A splat, a king, and asterisk, and some big old lips. And look at how perfectly the typographic solution fits each of these. Interchange the type on these solutions, and the marks fall apart.
