Recording into a cell to create Live Loop

- [Instructor] Okay, so far we've just been using Apple Factory content to experiment with Live Loops but the fun really starts when we create our own sounds. So, I have an instance of Alchemy synthesizer loaded up on a track here and we can hear this. (electronic melody) So, we're in this Live Loops view and by the way, if you hit this top right kind of double arrow button here, we can go to grid zoom which will give us an expanded view of these Live Loops. This can be especially helpful if you're using Live Loops to perform live on stage, which you can definitely do with Logic now. So, you'll notice that when I hover over empty cells in this track, there is a record button. And what that allows me to do is record different ideas into cells all with Live Loops in other tracks playing. So I can experiment and record individual cells, discreet ideas that I can then go ahead and trigger and then of course, record to the arrangement. So, let's check that out. I'm just going to play our basic core beat and then I'm going to hit record on some of these cells and see what happens. So. (upbeat electronic music) All right. So now you can see that I've recorded into the cell. And let's play that back. (upbeat electronic music) So if I trigger the cell now. (upbeat electronic music) And it's not perfect. It's not what I really want it to be yet but you can see, I can go ahead and now go back in for further editing, I can quantize. I can remove certain notes that maybe I don't want in there. And then it's really easy while we're still recording, to just go right back in and record some new ideas. So I'll play this beat now. (upbeat electronic music) Cool, so now I have this second idea that I can go back and edit that also. So you get the idea. You can go in and really easily record cells and try out different ideas with your Live Loops. Now once you have what you've recorded and you like your Live Loops, you can actually use the timeline and Live Loops together and that's what we're going to go over next.
