Evaluating the Neumann KM 84 and KM 184
- [Narrator] Let's take a look at some of these frequency response charts. There's really a lot that you can learn from these charts. You can't learn everything about a microphone, but you can learn a lot about how to expect the microphone to perform. This compares a classic Neumann KM84 small diaphragm condenser mic with the newer version of that microphone, the KM184. I chose this comparison because you can see that the KM 84 has a very, very flat frequency response. It pretty much stays on the flat line all the way from the top end almost to the bottom end. It rolls off on the low end a little bit, and the graph really stops at about 40 hertz, but you can tell that this microphone hears all frequencies at the same level. And that's what that means, when you see this kind of a line here, the red one, that just goes straight up to the top. That means that it's really hearing all of the frequencies evenly. Notice on the KM184 line that it starts down here on the 20 hertz, but it rolls…
