- [Scott] Most of the useful things we do with Linux rely on services. Services are programs or tools that run all the time, waiting for input and providing some kind of, well, service to clients and other consumers. Web servers, system logging, and even our remote shell are services we can install, manage, and configure. I'm Scott Simpson, and in this course I'll show you how to manage how services run, and we'll set up and manage some common services, including Secure Shell, a web server, a database, time synchronization, and remote logging. We'll take a look at how to secure them at the host or user level where appropriate. As you continue learning about becoming a system administrator, you need to be comfortable with these services and know how they work, so let's go.
