- [Scott] Online privacy has become a hot topic recently, and it's important to protect yourself while you browse the web. I'm Scott Simpson, and in this course we'll take a look at some options that you have for protecting yourself online. We'll take a look at how important trust is when browsing the web. And I'll give you an overview of how common privacy tools interact to protect you. Then I'll discuss VPNs or virtual private networks and what you should know about them if you choose to use one. We'll see some common consumer focused apps that work on computers and mobile devices.
And then I'll give you a tour of setting up your own VPN server on hardware you trust. After that, we'll take a look at Tor, The Onion Router. There's no magic bullet or single solution for online security, and what's important is that you understand and trust the systems that you're using. So while I'll make some general recommendations in the course and show you how to use a few different products, the goal is to help you understand the tools available so you can make informed choices for yourself. Let's go.
