- [Instructor] Welcome to Linux: Kernels and Logging for System Administration. I'm Grant McWilliams, computer science instructor and Linux enthusiast. In this course, we'll be learning about the PC's boot process and focusing on the grub2 boot loader. We'll talk about how to get into a broken Linux system that has file system problems and even how to reset the root password. We'll talk about how to manage Linux kernels, including how to update them, roll back to previous kernels, and manage kernel modules. We'll also talk about the new super service in Linux, systemd, and how to manage system services. We'll start and stop services and make them persistent. Lastly, we'll talk about rsyslog and journald and discuss why there's two different logging systems on CentOS. We'll learn to create log rules, rotate logs and how to make journald logs persistent. I love Linux, and I'm excited to teach you about Linux kernels and logging, so let's get started.
