RPM keeps track of information about files installed from a package. This information includes, file size, file permissions, checksums, device numbers, link paths, user ownership, group ownership, timestamp, and capabilities. It also stores the file type according to the package manager, which could be a configuration file, documentation file, ghost file, license file, or README file.
