Updating and installing software
- [Instructor] It's important to stay up-to-date with current software, because security patches, stability fixes, and other improvements are released all the time. Here in the desktop environment, I can check for updates using the tool called Software. I'll click on Activities, and then find the Software icon. This is the combined app store and software updater. And then I'll click over here on the Updates tab. I can see that there's some updates and updates for some other software. I'll click on OS Updates. Here, I can drill down into the packages that the updater wants to install and see the current version and the version that the package will be updated to. It looks like there's a lot to do, so I won't install these right now, but if I wanted to, I could click Download and then restart the system when prompted. These updates appear periodically as different packages get fixed or patched or just generally updated with new features and your system will notify you when they're…
