- [Narrator] When you're sitting in front of a system, it's easy to move files back and forth with a USB drive or some other kind of media. But if all you have is a text terminal, how do you get a file from your local machine to the remote machine and vice versa? Well, someone's thought of that. So, luckily, SSH supports file transfer in two different ways. Though it would be really convenient to just drag and drop a file on the terminal and have it upload, we do need to use a separate command to send data to and request it from the remote machine. These commands, which are installed alongside SSH on Macs and Linux machines, are SFTP and SCP. There are also graphical clients available for all major platforms that support SFTP, or SSH File Transfer Protocol, and allow you to drag and drop files easily, though not directly in the terminal window.
