Using the hypervisor, you can change the amount of RAM available to a virtual guest. Explore the ways to do that in this video.
- [Instructor] To change the amount of memory…available to a virtual machine…here in Virtual Machine Manager,…I can switch over to the Details view under the View menu,…and click on the Memory item.…Here, under current allocation,…I can set the amount of memory…to make available to the guest.…I'll set this to 1024, and press Apply.…I'll go back to the graphical console and log in.…And here at the command line, I'll write free dash h,…and I can see that I have just about…a gigabyte of memory available now.…
When you change the memory,…if there's more information in RAM…than what you set the limit to,…the system takes care of swapping to disk as necessary.…You may see the number in the current allocation box…change around as this happens.…Back in the Details view, under Memory,…this other parameter here,…the maximum amount available to the guest…can only be changed if the virtual machine isn't running,…but we can set the current allocation…up as high as this maximum without restarting.…We can also make changes to the memory…
