- [Instructor] Most computer systems can be expanded by installing additional software. I'm sure most everyone has installed software on Windows or Mac OS before. This process usually involves buying a box from a retailer and inserting the DVD into a drive in order to run the software installer. Another popular option would be to install the software from the internet. One would download the software from a website, and once that's done run the installer. Installing software in Linux can be a lot different than Windows or Mac OS. Let's take a look. In Linux there are three different ways of installing software. Number one, you can download software from the internet. Two, install software from a software repository. Or three, compile and install software from source code.
