- [Instructor] Linux servers manage some of the largest file archives in the world. Permissions and access control are a necessity in managing these servers. Welcome to "Linux: Files and Permissions." I'm Grant McWilliams, computer science instructor and Linux enthusiast. In this course, we'll learn about Linux files and how to gather extensive metadata about them. Then, we'll talk about how to manage files, including copying, moving, and deleting them, as well as creating links. Later, well take the mysteries out of Linux permissions and learn how to grant access for users to research as they need, including ownership inheritance and privilege escalation.
We'll also talk about the limitations of Linux permissions and use access control lists to overcome these limitations. We'll grant permissions to as many users and groups as we want, including inheritance. We'll end by covering some neat tricks using access control lists that make our lives easier. I love Linux, and I'm excited to teach you about it. So, let's get started!
