Install Cinnamon
- [Instructor] The MATE desktop is a fork of GNOME 2 and uses the GTK 2 toolkit. Cinnamon is a re-creation of GNOME 2 using the newer GTK 3 libraries from GNOME 2. The Linux Mint developers created Cinnamon based on GNOME 3 because the older GTK 2 libraries were no longer being supported by the GNOME project. To install Cinnamon desktop, let's start by preparing a CentOS 7 VM clone just for Cinnamon by clicking on our installed CentOS 7 VM and clicking Clone. I'm using the CentOS 7 full DVD VM I created in our course, Linux Installation and Overview. So click on the VM, right-click, select Clone, and let's change the name to CentOS 7 Cinnamon. Also click the box to reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards, and click Next. Click Linked Clone to save disk space and click on Clone. Once the virtual machine is available, click on it and boot it up. You want to dismiss any VirtualBox messages. Go to full screen and click on your user name. Type in your password and log in. Go up…
