Debian installer options and downloads

- [Instructor] To start using Debian, we need to install it, and to install it, we need an installer disc or an installer image to boot from. While many distributors offer different installers for a desktop and server role, Debian doesn't make that kind of distinction with the installer. The installer can be used to create a very minimal installation with a basic set of tools, as you'd use to start up a new server. Or it can be used to install a full desktop environment. The installers that Debian offers are distinguished by the size of the installation image. The small image, called Netinstall or Netinst, contains only what a system needs to start the installer from, and downloads any packages you choose to install over the network. The large images contain many packages, allowing you to get a fully functional installation without network access. These are distributed as a handful of DVD images or CD images. The…
