Creating the virtual machine

- It's time to create the virtual machine that will house our Linux server. Let's open VirtualBox. Other than some minor visual differences, all the steps are identical for Mac and Windows. This is the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager interface. At the top there are a number of controls for managing virtual machines. New will create a VM, Settings is for configuration, Discard deletes a VM, and Start will boot a VM. Underneath on the left is a list of all the virtual machines on your system, which is currently empty. We're going to have to do something about that. Click New to create a new virtual machine, which will bring us to a wizard that will walk us through the VM creation. First we'll specify a descriptive name to identify the new virtual machine. I'm going to set the name to Sandbox. The type of the operating system that we plan on installing, which in our case is Linux with the version of Ubuntu 64 bit.
