Configuring and managing logs
- [Instructor] Linux systems generate logs for all sorts of activity including system activity, the activity of various services and applications, mail and more. We can use these logs to discover problems, to aid in troubleshooting, and just to see what's going on. Using the system logger, we can control how these logs are created, managed, and stored. Rsyslog is a common logging agent that's used across many distros. So let's take a few minutes to look at it and log management in general. The configuration file for rsyslog is kept at /etc/rsyslog.conf. And individual modules are read from /etc/rsyslog.d. Together the configuration files define how particular logs should be treated and how events of different severity are recorded. Let's take a quick look at the configuration file.
