Configure an SMTP server

- [Instructor] Mail is an important service on the network. A lot of system services rely on it or make heavy use of it. Even if the messages are only for local delivery, mail makes a lot more sense than most other ways of delivering text information to various destinations. Mail works using a few components. A mail transport agent, or MTA, accepts mail messages from users, programs, or servers and clients and sends the messages to the correct mail servers. A mail delivery agent, or MDA, makes mail messages on those servers accessible to users via the IMAP or POP3 protocols. An MX record on name server points mail agents and clients to the correct server. We can set up mail locally with these components, and if our mail server is exposed to the Internet and configured to accept incoming mail, we'd also put MX records in our zone file to advertise the location of our mail server for outside senders.
