- [Instructor] Each host has an IP address, used to route traffic throughout the network. There needs to be an addressing scheme, inside of our computers to determine, what happens to that traffic, once it arrives at our host and there is. We use a system of ports that directs traffic, through certain servers as listening on them. For instance a web server on a host, with the IP address 192.168.2.100. If a host is trying to access this web server, they'd send an http request message to 192.168.2.100. This traffic would be directed, using network routers to this IP address. Once it arrives at the local network stack, it will be directed to the service listening on port 80. In our example, the web server. The network socket for this combination would be, 192.168.2.100 colon 80, as port 80 is the default port for web servers.
